The addition of carpool lanes to a Riverside stretch of Highway 91 will wait until the state’s fall bond sale even though the $273 million project is ready to start construction, state and county transportation officials said.
The California Transportation Commission this month deferred its $157 million commitment to the project to extend the carpool lanes from Adams Street to the interchange of Interstate 215 and Highways 60 and 91 downtown.
Instead of starting construction in September, the project will sit dormant until the state ponies up its share, which could be a matter of four or five weeks or possibly four or five months.
