Officials believe a proposed downtown Riverside shuttle carrying county workers to and from a temporary parking lot east of Highway 91 is the answer to a small problem. But it still doesn’t fix the city’s ongoing problem of the freeway barring some local movement and splitting city transit options.
The shuttle, called Route 54, would ferry riders — anyone who wanted a lift, not just county workers — to and from the spillover parking lot at 10th and Commerce streets and Lime Street and the downtown Riverside area west of the freeway. Rides would be free and offered during peak morning, lunch and evening commute times. The shuttle would stop at bus stops along the small route.
