Jeff Volk is overseeing construction of a lengthy segment of the Grand Parkway, but sometimes the work happens too quickly for him to keep up.
“I was through here an hour ago, and it was open,” Volk said as he looked for a way to drive around a spot where workers had laid steel bars in preparation for a concrete pour. “We’ll keep going down and find another way through.”
In about six months, drivers won’t have to wonder how they’ll get from Interstate 10 to U.S. 290. Transportation officials will open a 15-mile, four-lane segment of the Grand Parkway, also known as Texas 99. It’s the first new segment to open in more than five years along the 180-mile route, and the most significant since the section from I-10 south to U.S. 59 opened in 1994.
